UFC 272 | Main Card Preview
Saturday, March 5th (10:00 PM EST Main Card, 8:00 PM EST Prelims, 6:00 PM EST Early Prelims)
Colby Covington vs. Jorge Masvidal
WATCH - There's that small part of your brain that remembers #1 Colby standing up, throwing strikes, and exchanging punches with the number 1 pound for pound champion Kamaru Usman. That small part of your brain that thinks all of the friendship between these two turned into rivalry will ignite a flame inside them to stand in the pocket and beat each other to a bloody pulp. But then there is the negative and unfortunately realistic nagging part of your brain, that refuses to forget the snoozefest of Colby vs Tyron Woodley and refuses to stop reminding you of how boring this fight has the potential to be. Unfortunately, we can't truly blame Colby if he decides to go the boring route in this fight and lay on #6 Jorge Masvidal for 5 easy rounds resulting in an effortless victory. All we can do is watch and pray that Colby is willing to risk an easy win in a PPV main event just tohumiliate a former friend at his own game.
Rafael Dos Anjos vs. Rafael Fiziev
WATCH - #11 Fiziev has been awarded either a performance of the night or fight of the night award for his last 4 consecutive victories. His hooks sound like cannon fire when they land, his kicks are locked-on missiles, and every fight he's ever been in is a must watch event. So what better test for this incredible young fighter than #6 RDA, whose been non-stop fighting top 10 opponents in the lightweight and welterweight divisions since 2013, plus he utilizes a more wrestling focused strength-set than any of the fighters Fiziev has faced so far. Every Fiziev fight in the UFC has been a banger, and it will be all on RDA to stop this hype train in its tracks.
Edson Barboza vs. Bryce Mitchell
WATCH - Is undefeated #11 Bryce Mitchell too one dimensional with his wrestling focus to ever crack the top 10 of this division? Is #10 Edson Barboza too washed up after all of the fight of the night wars he has had to ever get back to the highest level of his career? Are Bryce Mitchell's camo shorts the future of high fashion? Is his nickname "Thug Nasty" a deep and philosophical question to ponder on the rural hardship in an ever urbanizing world? We've had these questions for years, and this fight finally gives us the answers, at least to some of them.
Kevin Holland vs. Alex Oliveira
WATCH - There's only one thing that comes to mind when you hear that #14 Kevin Holland, the king of arm reach and kung fu fighting, has returned for another fight: Please don't wrestle him! Pretty please do not wrestle him!
Serghei Spivac vs. Greg Hardy
WATCH - Jake Paul beat Tyron Woodley. Tyron Woodley beat Josh Koscheck. Josh Koscheck beat Matt Hughes. Matt Hughes beat the pound for pound GOAT, Georges Saint-Pierre. Therefore, Jake Paul is better than GSP. Oh wait, sorry, I'm getting my hot takes confused. I meant to say that Serghei Spivac's victory over Tai Tuivasa is complete 100% proof that if you tune into this fight you will get to watch Spivac knock Greg Hardy's head clean off in epic fashion!
