UFC 273 | Main Card Preview
Saturday, April 9th (10:00 PM EST Main Card, 8:00 PM EST Prelims, 6:15 PM EST Early Prelims)
Alexander Volkanovski vs. Chan Sung Jung
WATCH - This isn’t the most exciting matchup for the featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski, who is arguably the best pound for pound fighter in the UFC. #4 Korean Zombie has shown his age in his last few fights, slowing down from the violence he’s built a career off of. But he’s still clearly a top tier fighter in the featherweight rankings and absolutely decimates any opponent he faces who doesn’t belong at the very top. If Korean Zombie can show flashes of his younger self, this will be a banger, but a betting man would expect a calculated dismantling.
Aljamain Sterling vs. Petr Yan
WATCH - Petr Yan looks to defend his bantamweight championship belt for a second time in a rematch against the #1 contender, Aljamain Sterling. Last time they fought was a highlight reel for the ages as Petr “Pride Never Die” Yan executed Sterling with a vicious knee to a grounded opponent. A move so gruesome that many believe it should be against the rules. The whole MMA community will be on the edge of their seat to see how Yan can top that considering how hopeless the case is for Sterling who was completely neutralized by Yan in his last appearance.
Gilbert Burns vs. Khamzat Chimaev
WATCH - There are few moments in sports that feel bigger than the event you are watching. More magnificent then just another victory. Moments so awe-inspiring that you feel like you are witnessing history in the making. Love him or hate him, #11 welterweight Khamzat Chimaev radiates an energy that hasn’t been seen since the rise of Conor McGregor! Not only is he undefeated, not only has he finished every fight he’s ever been in within 7 minutes, but he’s done it all in a fashion so dominating that it appears to crush the spirit of his opponents within the opening seconds of the fight. #2 Gilbert Burns, a former title contender, who trains with the champion Kamaru Usman, is by far the biggest and realest test that Khamzat has faced. And if Khamzat can make this fight look like all his others, this won’t be just a hype-train, but a spaceship headed past the stratosphere!
Mackenzie Dern vs. Tecia Torres
WATCH - This is a watch purely because this is really great matchmaking by the UFC with a rebound fight for #5 Dern against #7 Torres who has built a formidable streak for herself lately. And frankly women’s strawweight is usually a really fun division in the top 10 of the rankings. But all that being said, the following 3 fights are so much more important and likely to entertain that we would recommend using this as a bathroom break if needed.
Ian Garry vs. Darian Weeks
BATHROOM BREAK - Ian “The Next Conor McGregor” Garry who struggled early against Jordan “The Worst Fighter in the UFC” Williams during his debut. Hard to hype yourself up to watch him fail to decimate another tomato can.
