UFC 279 | Main Card Preview
Saturday, September 10th (10:00 PM EST Main Card, 8:00 PM EST Prelims, 6:00 PM EST Early Prelims)
Khamzat Chimaev vs. Nate Diaz
WATCH - Sanctioned murder. A #3 ranked young and undefeated demolisher of worlds takes on the has been of has beens in the worst PPV main event since the last time Amanda Nunes headlined. Might be the first time in UFC history that a ranked fighter takes on an unranked opponent in a PPV main event.
Li Jingliang vs. Tony Ferguson
WATCH - Get your goats ready because we all need to make a sacrifice to the just bleed gods before this fight. #14 (ww) Jingliang, a natural welterweight, will be ready to unleash pain on the natural lightweight, #11 (lw) Ferguson. When hasn’t a late career weight division jump while on a massive losing streak worked out for a washed up fighter?
Kevin Holland vs. Daniel Rodriguez
WATCH - Bangers only on this card so far, but potentially all one sided bangers. Less of an instant classic vibe and more of a Bellator prelims on youtube vibe. Kevin Holland, who was already lengthy at middleweight, has been incredible since he jumped down a division and is making quick work of all the best unranked welterweights. Daniel Rodriguez, who seems to constantly get hyped as a prospect despite being 35 without ever reaching the rankings, will need to finally show that potential people seem to think he has. Because all the luxuries D-Rod usually gets in height, reach, and striking disappear against a man as dangerously long as Holland.
Irene Aldana vs. Macy Chiasson
WATCH - Had a pre-written spiel about this being a 4th one sided beatdown on the card. As I thought #4 Aldana who has two 1st round KOs in her last two victories should make quick work of a struggling #10 Chiasson who has not convincingly beat anyone in the rankings. But alas the robot overlords at MMAalgo have ruled against me. If I die before this card begins I want you all to know that my electronics didn’t fall into my bathtub, they chased in after me.
MMAalgo Bet - Macy Chiasson 3.5u @ +155 (better than -183.1)
Johnny Walker vs. Ion Cutelaba
BATHROOM BREAK - It’s easy to be fooled by the names above you. Remembering better times of two titanic forces for violence, who slaughtered their opponents like lambs and used their chins to block punches without a care in the world. But this is your hopium intervention. And we are here to tell you that those days are over. #13 Johnny Walker is a shell of his former self, who has lost 4 of his last 5, and now attempts to fight safe which just results in pathetic inactivity. Ion Cutelaba was never that great at striking, and in the absence of fighting a wrestler will opt to spend the majority of the fight clinching and failing to secure takedowns before gassing hard.
