UFC Columbus | Main Card Preview
Saturday, March 26th (7:00 PM EST Main Card, 4:00 PM EST Prelims)
Curtis Blaydes vs. Chris Daukaus
WATCH - There will never be a top 10 heavyweight more boring than #4 Curtis Blaydes. He’s one of the only heavyweights who is capable of wrestling, and he utilizes that in painfully uneventful fashion by taking down his striker opponents and laying on them. Even in his losses by KO the fights are boring and uneventful before his chin is rocked by a massive punch (from either champion Ngannou or #5 Derrick Lewis). #8 Chris Daukaus is the exact opposite fighter, a powerful puncher with a limited skillset, a lack in experience, and a ranking much higher than he’s probably earned. Join us in begging for a Daukaus finish as the rounds slowly tick by and his window of opportunity slowly closes.
Joanne Wood vs. Alexa Grasso
BATHROOM BREAK - As if Curtis Blaydes wasn’t already threatening your ability to stay awake, the UFC decided that this card was the perfect spot for a women’s flyweight co-main. Just go to bed early or you’ll be waking up on your couch.
Askar Askarov vs. Kazula Vargas
WATCH - This title fight eliminator flyweight event is the people’s main event. #6 Kai Kara France is in the top 5 of most exciting fights currently in the UFC. He has an unmatched willingness to take risks and swing hands with any opponent he has until he gets a knockout or goes unconscious. But his opponent this weekend is a different type of test, a wrestler from Dagestan who drags his opponents down into the depths and drowns them. This is flyweight’s equivalent of Khabib vs McGregor and it’s going to be incredible!
Matt Brown vs. Bryan Barberena
WATCH - Matt Brown might be 41 but he can still lay people out cold, and Bryan Barberena is a perfect dance partner for him considering his ability to match his opponent's style and create entertaining fights. Keep in mind though, this is welterweight which has a tendency to have fighters who move at a pace as if they are walking in water.
Ilir Latifi vs. Aleksei Oleinik
BATHROOM BREAK - They are both older heavyweights who are 1-3 in their last 4 and are known for prioritizing grappling over striking. If you didn't fall asleep just reading that sentence, then I would highly recommend you stop hanging out with McGregor so you can lay off the cocaine.
