UFC Columbus | Prelim Preview
Saturday, March 26th (7:00 PM EST Main Card, 4:00 PM EST Prelims)
Jennifer Maia vs. Manon Fiorot
WATCH - #13 Fiorot still has a perfect UFC record and got some finishes early on, which is really impressive for fighters in the women’s flyweight division. Just look at #4 Maia’s record to see how decision heavy it usually is. Bad news is that it seems unlikely the victories by finish will continue as Fiorot takes steps up in opponents but the good news is that the steps are never that high up for a division this shallow.
Neil Magny vs. Max Griffin
BATHROOM BREAK - Only a fool watches a #9 Magny fight and expects anything but welterweight at its most boring. Also not inspired by a 36 year old trying to break into the rankings with a 50% UFC win rate.
Marc Diakiese vs. Viacheslav Borshchev
WATCH - Diakiese is a boring 50/50 journeyman but this fight is saved and then some by Borshchev. His UFC debut was one round of incredible violence before he landed a liver shot to take out his opponent, and he looked great on the contender series as well. Excited to see what more Borshchev can do in the UFC!
Sara McMann vs. Karol Rosa
BATHROOM BREAK - How many 50% win rate fighters with 10+ fights are there on this prelim? It’s shameful that #9 McMann is still somehow in the top 10 of the women’s bantamweight division. They desperately need new blood like #12 Rosa but to be honest this division is so depleted of talent and entertainment that it’s usually best to wait until they reach the top 5 before giving them any attention at all.
Chris Gutierrez vs. Batgerel Danaa
WATCH - 1-2-3 in a row by finish for the mongolian Danaa who reminds us all why we love the men’s bantamweight division so much! Gutierrez is no pushover though with a 6 fight unbeaten streak of his own. Both of these fighters have only improved since losing their UFC debuts.
Matheus Nicolau vs. David Dvorak
WATCH - Two lesser known but up and coming flyweights. #7 Nicolau and #10 Dvorak have both looked great recently but only one of them will get the win and the push into the top tier of this division. These top 10 flyweight fights are pretty much guaranteed bangers!
Luis Saldana vs. Bruno Souza
WATCH - Saldana had one of the best highlight reel knockouts ever on the contender series but it just hasn’t clicked for him in the UFC. Souza was an LFA champion but suffered in a tough UFC debut against the hyped up Melsik Baghdasaryan. Will it be their rebound, or an early death to a promising career?
