UFC Long Island | Main Card Preview
Saturday, July 16th (2:00 PM EST Main Card, 11:00 AM EST Prelims)
Brian Ortega vs. Yair Rodriguez
WATCH - The MMA world is still high on you after a brutal and exciting main event war. Even if lose 50-45, the sheer violence and grit will have fans clamoring for your return. But that only lasts for one more fight. Both these men need a win badly here to remain relevant contenders. For #2 Ortega, having 2 failed title shots, even if they are his only losses in his entire career, means a single slip up and the UFC will be eager to get rid of him and bring in new blood. For #3 Rodriguez, long layoffs and failures to capitalize on #1 contender matchups will define his career if he can never push past the top 5 and take a crack at the featherweight title.
Michelle Waterson vs. Amanda Lemos
BATHROOM BREAK - Too old and too mediocre to be relevant in the strawweight division, especially when they have already fallen to #10 & #11 and are coming off a loss.
Li Jingliang vs. Muslim Salikhov
WATCH - Salikhov is proof that there is some integrity in the UFC, getting a ranked opponent after a 5-win streak despite being retirement age for most welterweights at 38 years old. #14 Jingliang will be looking to rebound with another banger, for even when he gets gatekept out of the top 10 he still finds a way to lose with excitement.
FGTDalgo Bet - Fight Does Not Go The Distance 1u @ -110 (better than -125.8)
Matt Schnell vs. Sumudaerji
WATCH - The falling #8 Schnell vs the rising #12 Sumudaerji. Forget their trajectories, top flyweights are always must watch and guaranteed to deliver!
Shane Burgos vs. Charles Jourdain
WATCH - #14 Burgos has only lost 3 fights in his entire career, and in all 3 losses he was awarded fight of the night. The man can not die a boring death. And serves as the perfect violent gatekeeper for the featherweight rankings. Which is the perfect match-up for the young Jourdain, looking to capitalize off his recent success by propelling himself into the top 15.
Lauren Murphy vs. Miesha Tate
BATHROOM BREAK - Remember what I said about Ortega and Rodriguez. Now pretend that they are boring and had awful boring fights for the belt in which they got destroyed easily by the champ. Well you don’t have to pretend with these two, who may have given Shevchenko and Nunes the easiest title defenses of their entire careers.
