UFC Vegas 46 | Main Card Preview
Saturday, January 15th (7:00 PM EST Main Card, 4:00 PM EST Prelims)
Calvin Kattar vs. Giga Chikadze
WATCH - There is nothing more terrifying for a UFC fighter than learning that your next opponent is an up-and-coming fighter from the Caucasus region. #8 Giga Chikadze is the boogeyman times 10. 7-0 in the UFC, the last 3 by finish including a TKO victory over #10 Edson Barboza. Giga has been non-stop entertainment since his debut, styling on his opponents with incredible kicking prowess and striking similar to fan favorites like Israel Adesanya and Sean O'Malley. However, to truly reach the top of the division he's going to have to get past an opponent much more gritty and durable than any he has ever faced before in #5 Calvin Kattar, a man who broke records for most strikes to the head absorbed without getting finished in his last fight against #1 Max Holloway. Not to mention the fact that Kattar is known for his boxing and can land bombs that can take anyone out. It's the technical striker vs the gritty brawler, the most casual friendly style matchup that MMA can produce.
Katlyn Chookagian vs. Jennifer Maia
BATHROOM BREAK - So I heard you like fighters who can't win title shots but are just good enough to win boring decisions over the scrubs that squeak into the top 5 of this awful division. Well, how about 2 of those gatekeepers pitted against each other. What does this actually do for either of them? Nothing. Why should you care about this fight? I don't know and neither does the UFC.
Brandon Royval vs. Rogerio Bontorin
WATCH - FLYWEIGHT BANGER! EVERYBODY GET IN HERE! So yes, #5 Brandon Royval's last 2 fights have been losses, but all 4 fights of his in the UFC, win or lose, have been some of the best fights I've seen in the UFC. The man defines flyweight bangers! Go and watch his legendary win over #6 Kai Kara-France to see what I mean. And it's not like his losses to the champion Brandon Moreno or #3 Alexandre Pantoja have aged poorly. #7 Bontorin has shown he can hang in the top 10, but he will have to show real toughness that he hasn't had to display yet to get past a chaotic killer like Brandon Royval.
Jake Collier vs. Chase Sherman
BATHROOM BREAK - Who doesn't love heavyweights that can't finish fights?
Bill Algeo vs. Joanderson Brito
WATCH - Some say he's the greatest fighter of all time. Some say he's the uncrowned champion. Some say his win over Spike Carlyle is the highest quality win of any featherweight in the UFC. Some say I am totally biased. But if Bill Algeo isn't your favorite fighter after he decimates his opponent this Saturday and gives a legendary post fight speech than you are dead to me.
