The Wide World of Combat Sports
January is an awful month for combat sports fans. The UFC takes half the weeks off and other than a single Bellator event and a US debut from Eagle FC the rest of the B-tier promotions don't even show up at all. Boxing is also completely empty outside of middleweight champion Claressa Shields making her return this Saturday night on SKY after her attempt to convert to MMA last year in the PFL ended with an embarrassing loss by split decision to a 21-year-old nobody. People always rag on successful MMA fighters for looking awful when switching to boxing but it goes both ways.
