UFC Vegas 49 | Main Card Preview
Saturday, February 26th (7:00 PM EST Main Card, 4:00 PM EST Prelims)
Islam Makhachev vs. Bobby Green
WATCH - From the hidden depths of the division, a chosen one rises to the forefront and throws his spear into the sky to mock the gods! Few men possess the fearlessness required to answer the call to arms as a last-minute replacement against the man most consider to be the toughest contender in the division, and a guaranteed future champ. But Bobby Green is no ordinary man, but a herculean demi-god! Prepared to climb Mount Olympus and sit upon the throne as he screams to the world that his loss to Fiziev was a robbery and he's always been the greatest lightweight fighter in the world! It is glory or death for Bobby Green! A launch into the heavens with the title shot and media attention he's always deserved, or a complete collapse at the end of his career as #4 Islam Makhachev drags him back down into the underworld!
Misha Cirkunov vs. Wellington Turman
BATHROOM BREAK - I don't know what is more embarassing, Wellington Turman failing to finish Sam Alvey and having to rely on the judges in a split decision, or Misha Cirkunov skyrocketing into irrelevancy as he attempts to drop down a weight division to middleweight in his mid-3os.
Ji Yeon Kim vs. Priscila Cachoeira
BATHROOM BREAK - Oh wait, I know something more embarrassing than the above. The fact that two fighters with losing UFC records in the worst weight division in the UFC (women's flyweight) have found their way onto a main card.
Arman Tsarukyan vs. Joel Alvarez
WATCH - In a just world, this fight is the co-main event, and it isn't even up for debate. #13 Arman Tsarukyan has been an absolute machine lately, dominating every single round he's had in his last 4 fights ever since having the extremely bad luck of facing #4 Islam Makhachev in his UFC debut. But even he is dwarfed by the impressiveness of Joel Alvarez, an absolute killer who has KOd and choked out the very best prospects in the division and looks to continue the trend this Saturday night. This has the makings to be one of the greatest lightweight prospect fights in UFC history, if it weren't for the fact that Joel Alvarez seems to be incapable of making weight at 155 which is likely to ruin the hype for this fight, if not get the fight cancelled altogether.
Armen Petrosyan vs. Gregory Rodrigues
WATCH - Middleweight Gregory Rodrigues looked fantastic in his first two fights in the UFC, which should make him a great test for the talented debutante Armen Petrosyan who is coming off a very flashy highlight finish on Dana White's Contender Series.
