UFC Vegas 50 | Prelim Preview
Saturday, March 12th (7:00 PM EST Main Card, 4:00 PM EST Prelims)
As promised, we have included the Dober vs. McKinney and Pereira vs. Silva breakdowns in this email despite them being on the main card
Drew Dober vs. Terrance McKinney
WATCH - The last two UFC events have featured fighters who had won fights in the past two weeks re-entering the octagon on short notice against much higher tier opponents. Both of them got absolutely smashed. Here's why this time it is different: Bobby Green and Renato Moicano are both veterans who the UFC tried to hype up as up and comers but in reality have very clear ceilings which prevents them from being able to make jumps up in competition like that. McKinney is brand new to the UFC and already has 2 victories against tough opponents in which he utterly destroyed them in the first round. The first fight he won with a single punch, and the second fight he won with incredible grappling ability. Grab your jetpacks people because if McKinney can make this happen, we are riding this hype train to the moon!
Alex Pereira vs. Bruno Silva
WATCH - Make no mistake, this is the most hyped and important fight on this card! Bruno Silva is an absolute titan, he knocked out back-to-back tough opponents in M-1 to win the belt there, in arguably the best regional promotion in the world. Then entered the UFC and has won all 3 of his fights easily with thunderous knockouts. And he's not even the reason this fight is so hyped! Alex Pereira has been a media sensation since stepping foot in an octagon considering he's one of the greatest kickboxing champions of all time, and holds not one, but two victories over middleweight champion Israel Adesanya in kickboxing. One of those wins was by KO! No one in the MMA world has gotten even close to knocking out Adesanya! Pereira's first win in the UFC was a flashy finish, and if he can repeat that against an absolute killer like Bruno Silva then the UFC will be shooting him into the rankings and pushing him towards a fight with Adesanya as fast as possible!
Matthew Semelsberger vs. AJ Fletcher
WATCH - Semelsberger has some power in his hands and loves to strike but we've only seen him knockout absolutely awful opponents that shouldn't have been in a UFC octagon in the first place. Fletcher might be debuting but he is not like those fighters considering his impeccable undefeated record and his highlight reel flying knee finish on the contender series.
JJ Aldrich vs. Gillian Robertson
BATHROOM BREAK - Why does it feel like ever since GSP retired, every Canadian fighter has been a boring female flyweight. Pour one out for your Canadian friends!
Trevin Jones vs. Javid Basharat
WATCH - Jones is mediocre but he brings it every fight. Basharat is another undefeated debuter on this card who looked great on the 2021 contender series. Should be fun!
Damon Jackson vs. Tagir Ulanbekov
WATCH - Don't be fooled by Damon Jackson's UFC record, his first 3 fights in the UFC in which he went 0-1-2 was a long time ago and since working his way back to the UFC he has now looked much better going 2-1 with the only loss to Ilia Topuria. Only problem is Jackson is a bit old for a prospect in a division as light as 145.
Sabina Mazo vs. Miranda Maverick
BATHROOM BREAK - Both fighters lost their last two fights.
Dalcha Lungiambula vs. Cody Brundage
BATHROOM BREAK - Brundage lost his only fights on both DWCS and in the UFC so far. Dalcha showed promise in his 2019 debut but has been lackluster since. It's a fight of awful vs mediocre.
Kris Moutinho vs. Guido Cannetti
WATCH - Kris Moutinho is an absolute legend for absorbing an insane number of punches to the face from Sean O'Malley but refusing to ever stop walking forward. The man is the terminator! Just look at how comical his Distance % and Murder Differential stats are! Guido's UFC record is atrocious so hopefully Moutinho actually has a chance here. But considering Moutinho was a late replacement off the streets when he got into the UFC it is doubtful.
Tafon Nchukwi vs. Azamat Murzakanov
WATCH - So I heard you like undefeated fighters who got finishes on Dana White's Contender Series in 2021, well hold your excitement for the THIRD one on this card! Azamat will kick off the debuts as the first fight when he takes on Tafon Nchukwi who is a boring but above average unranked light heavyweight.
