UFC Vegas 53 | Main Card Preview
Saturday, April 30th (7:00 PM EST Main Card, 4:30 PM EST Prelims)
Rob Font vs. Marlon Vera
WATCH - Both of these top ranked bantamweights have never had a boring fight in their lives. Even after they both failed to breach the Jose Aldo gate, there still is a lot of room for improvement and the winner of this fight will still be relevant to the ever changing title picture. #5 Font will be looking for the knockout punch while #8 Vera looks for the knockout with his elbows, knees, or shins, which should create some fireworks for the fans!
Andrei Arlovski vs. Jake Collier
BATHROOM BREAK - A lot of people are unable to give true evaluations of the entertainment of a fight due to rooting bias. Former heavyweight champion Arlovski is one of the best examples of this phenomenon. He consistently wins the most boring points fighting decisions against absolutely dreadful unranked heavyweights only to lose to a real contender anytime he gets close to cracking the rankings. At a weight class this large you just want to see a quick finish and Arlovski forces us to watch 3 whole rounds of a lot of easily gassed and terrible heavyweights.
Andre Fili vs. Joanderson Brito
BATHROOM BREAK - Fili is the ultimate ranking’s gatekeeper of the featherweight division and Brito is still winless in the UFC.
Jared Gordon vs. Grant Dawson
WATCH - Grant Dawson is a young and talented fighter who looked poised to continue his winstreak deep into the lightweight standings only to have a lot of his momentum killed in his most recent fight which ended in a draw. But Gordon is a clear journeyman. Will be up to Dawson to take back that momentum!
Darren Elkins vs. Tristan Connelly
WATCH - Two older featherweights who are willing to do what it takes to snag a win. Only boring scenario is if Connelly can’t defend takedowns and Elkins can’t finish him on the ground, which isn’t the most unlikely thing ever.
Krzysztof Jotko vs. Gerald Meerschaert
WATCH - Meerschaert is absolute must watch kill or be killed violence! His bounce back since getting one punched by Khamzat has been legendary! If Jotko turns this into a points fight, which he has been known to do, I will never forgive him.
