UFC Vegas 69 | Main Card Preview

weeklycasual.substack.com

Saturday, February 18th (7:00 PM EST Main Card, 4:00 PM EST Prelims)

Jessica Andrade vs. Erin Blanchfield

WATCH - Easily the best non-title fight women’s main event in the past 5 years (or maybe ever), but an absolutely awful card to support it. Andrade is a tiny tank at flyweight, ramming through all of her opponents outside of the champion and is an absolutely terrifying task for anyone not named Shevchenko. This is a massive fight & opportunity for Blanchfield, who is shooting up like a rocketship at only 23 years of age. It’s hard to overlook her 4 straight UFC wins, especially with her recent domination of the popular Molly McCann. This incredible matchmaking could launch Blanchfield into a title fight that would be Shevchenko’s most hype defense ever (and yes we’re overlooking her defense against literally who cares on UFC 285). Or it could cement Andrade as the ultimate #2 gatekeeper to the tune of Max Holloway and Robert Whittaker.

Jordan Wright vs. Zac Pauga

BATHROOM BREAK - Here is the bottom of the cliff we spoke of. This card has one fight on top a heap of trash. Jordan Wright is best known for being an unranked middleweight body bag, considering he got smashed on DWCS and has been finished in 4 of his 6 UFC fights. And then you might remember Zac Pauga as the guy who got KOd by Usman’s younger brother in a TUF heavyweight finale. And now despite being 2 weight classes apart, they are meeting in the middle at light heavyweight. What a legendary co-main!

MMAalgo Bet - Jordan Wright 3u @ +230 (better than -129.2)

Josh Parisian vs. Jamal Pogues

BATHROOM BREAK - Not only is this card trash, but it’s slow and heavy trash. Here’s a debuting heavyweight who won a decision on DWCS (yikes) vs a guy who has lost to Parker Porter (bigger yikes).

William Knight vs. Marcin Prachnio

BATHROOM BREAK - Beatings will continue until morale improves! If you didn’t like those fights above, then this might be something more up your alley… that’s right, it’s two mediocre light heavyweight journeymen that are both coming off of losses! Hurray!

Jim Miller vs. Alexander Hernandez

WATCH - In all seriousness it’s baffling that this isn’t the co-main. These are clearly more recognizable fighters than those garbage light heavy and heavyweights. Also, Jim Miller’s 3-fight win streak is an incredible feat for a 39 year old who is fighting killer after killer in the deep waters of the lightweight division. And speaking of killers, Alexander Hernandez, even off 2 losses, is not someone you can scoff at. You can probably recognize the name of every person he’s lost to, and he even holds a KO victory over #4 Beneil Dariush.
